Where there are more sensors than people.Where everything, whether physical or digital, is being turned\u00a0into data that can be accessed via the Web. Where we are\u00a0using our phenomenal advances in technology to codify\u00a0the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The application of AI with the web of data is in its infancy,\u00a0 but points to the evolution of an \u2018<strong>algocene<\/strong>\u2019, where algorithms\u00a0<span class=\"a\">have direct global impact on our society, economy and\u00a0environment, and data is a critical infrastructure that\u00a0supports it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"a\"><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/doc\/311714343\/ODI-s-3rd-Year-Annual-Report\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3086\" src=\"https:\/\/dgen.net\/0\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/the-dataverse.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"448\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dgen.net\/0\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/the-dataverse.jpg 572w, https:\/\/dgen.net\/0\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/the-dataverse-197x300.jpg 197w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 448px) 100vw, 448px\" \/><\/a><span class=\"a\">As we hit peak everything (from antibiotics to raw materials),\u00a0we must work out how to house, feed, employ, protect, heat,\u00a0transport, make and educate with less. We need to expand\u00a0our\u00a0<strong><span class=\"a\">network thinking<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"a\">\u00a0and place\u00a0<strong><span class=\"a\">open innovation<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"a\">\u00a0at the heart\u00a0of our infrastructure systems design: enabling organisations\u00a0to become porous by providing them with data, standards,\u00a0tools and techniques, and engaging\u00a0billions of people\u00a0to\u00a0participate, solve problems and prosper.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"a\">I believe the Web is part of our social response to globalisation,\u00a0helping us remain connected with each other even if we are\u00a0spatially fragmented. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"a\">I believe the web of data is a response\u00a0that will help us to address the greatest challenges of our\u00a0time. Yet we haven\u2019t truly accepted that to\u00a0address our pace\u00a0of change, we need to\u00a0design for open.\u00a0\u00a0This does not mean\u00a0making everything open \u2013 far from it \u2013 but we must provide\u00a0the architecture for, embrace and lead with an open approach.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"a\">Our\u00a0<del>digital<\/del> economy, <del>digital<\/del> environment and <del>digital<\/del> society\u00a0depend on it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[citation: this a copy of the text I wrote to close out the ODI&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/doc\/311714343\/ODI-s-3rd-Year-Annual-Report\">3rd Annual Report]<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The dataverse We are in an anthropogenic age in which the digital and\u00a0physical blur.
